HOLIDAYS!!!!

And they started very well. I lost my mind and bought Guitar Hero IV for the PC. It's actually quite addicting, but I would prefer a greater Metal selection to play from. I just hope they'll release Guitar Hero V for the PC. Children of Bodom, Dragonforce, Iron Maiden... playing those must be much more fun. :p

Well, being at home is no fun right now :D

Vista Wireless Problems

If your wireless adapter is always disconnecting, while using Windows Vista, don't do like me and buy another one :p, use this program instead and disable the power-saving mode for the wireless adapter:

Windows 7 is a bomb

Literally!!!

It's actually faster and cleaner than Vista. But, 4h after I installed it its main partition became corrupted and never recovered even though Chkdsk seems to think it can solve the problems and runs in an infinite "repair, reboot" loop. Well, I'll stick with XP and Ubuntu for now. :p

What's the meaning of life?

...

Beats me!!! :D

But live for the good of others and rely only upon yourself for feeling well... that should keep you happy. ;)

King of Fools

Dedicated to some people I know... ;)

"You feel at ease as you flock with the masses,
What do you see with your heads in their asses?
Keep on railing at what I believe ,
Call me insane and I am proud to be.

And I walk the wicked way!"

The Phoenix Scorpio...

It's me!!! :D

Well, the news:

I broke up with my girlfriend, a 3 year relationship, which was at the time very painful, but now I know it was the best for us both. My life has turned 180º and has become in some places chaotic but that is so much fun, not knowing what's next and being able to change every time and cope with it in peace and tranquility... :)

Speaking of fun. I'm having lots of it!!! I hadn't had so much fun in ages. :D I'm finally fully recovered from my illness and since I could overcome that, I feel like I can overcome pretty much anything life throws at me. :) And life is so much fun and invigorating when we are at peace with ourselves and others... and choose to actually pay more attention to the path than to the goals. :)

I'm more energetic, calm and full of life than ever before and look forward to the future... alone for the time being, which feels actually pretty good, and hopefully with my unknown soulmate in due time... ;)

Renascer...

Quem disse que eu ia morrer aos 27 devia estar certo, porque sinto-me como tal. Ao menos vou renascer para (espero eu) um futuro melhor...

Some news...

Well, first my head is a mess. :D My room is also a mess. I just stopped having enough space for all my stuff.

Ines' head is a mess also and our relationship is sailing through troubled waters.

My job is also a mess. :D Everything is a mess. Well, I guess you get what you subconsciously wish for. :P A quiet, banal life wouldn't be any fun, now would it?!

On a happier note:

I started programming Aurora, an Neural Network artificial intelligence. I'm still working out the details, but I've been studying neurology reports and am aiming to make the best human brain simulation model I can. My first goal is to have her learn portuguese and if she can do that, the sky is the limit!!! (Well, actually the amount of RAM and processing power is the limit ;))

TranShape is shaping up great (pardon the pun). Just a few more weeks with a little spare time to have it show it's stuff.

Something to relax :D

Because this blog has been a bit in a sad mood lately let's bring happiness and fun to it :D

A snapshot of my life...

Well, let's see...

I asked a friend of mine if she was well and she didn't answer for a few days even though she could. That's very mean and at first got me angry, but now I really don't care. Karma will deal with her. She's obviously still a child in mind, so I've just blocked her on MSN... :)

At work, well... my bosses actually included me in a project of web programming. Web programming as practically everyone knows is the only type of programming I hate. Furthermore, they are taking measures to ensure everyone is stressed out, because, as one of them puts it: "Stress encourages productivity, relaxation creativity". Well, they obviously don't know the best companies in the planet are the creative ones, not exactly the most productive ones. I could have a factory of shoes and hire "slave labor". They would be productive as hell, but the company would be just another subpar one.
Since I'm growing more and more weary, I'm moving to work elsewhere in Europe. I just feel sad that Nes will be probably away from me for 3 years, but it will be good for both our lifes.

TranShape is coming along very well. It's now more modular and manageable. I foresee a great financial feature for its technologies. Now, I've only got to find some partners to sell it. :) (No, not my company, they're too narrow minded to ever become successful. And they live in a different world than their employees. Maybe a major in psychology would do them well :D).

Lost and found

I feel I've found something in myself I had lost a long time ago... :)

Life sometimes is unfair...

I know that I live to learn and evolve, but sometimes lessons in life can be so painful.
Why couldn't everything in life be a sea of roses? Maybe because that way we wouldn't learn anything... the worst thing we can do is to try to control our thoughts, our emotions, our feelings... if we try to do that we are forever controlled by them and worse, we are controlled by the fear of having them. And the problem about emotions is that they come unwarned and when we discover them it's too late.

It is so unfair when we get hurt by something completely out of our reach. We try to do good and we get stung...
I've lived so many years, I was supposed to be immune to that. But I'm not. I suffer and hurt just like anyone else.
Well, there's no point in being down. There's no time to feel down. All life keeps going towards its end and renewal. Each second we feel sad is a second we could be doing something good.

Like an old saying goes: "Worse than a bad person doing evil, is a good person not doing good.".

New meaner predictor... :D

Well, a new predictor is ready. This one does about 1250000000 pattern checks (as opposed to last week's that did about 8000000 checks).

Well, the numbers it predicted as most probable for last week were 9 28 42 46 13 + 1 2

It would have guessed 9 13 + 1 2 (27€). It's a shame it wasn't ready yet. :(

Well, there remain only a few issues to solve and then it's time to optimize it to StreamSDK. :D

Why it failed...

Well, I programmed the thing in 3 days. In my rush to finish it before the draw, I made a stupid mistake.

I assumed the XOR operation would be balanced in the infinite. Well, it's not and it even depends on how many values I XOR. Histogram in black is with 2 operands, in blue with 3 operands.
Had the program not have had this mistake, I would have guessed 2 balls and 1 star.

Predicting EuroMillions...

Ok. I played 2 keys, and a friend of mine played other 2. The 4 are generated using the same algorithm but mine are a randomness prediction and his are a pattern prediction.

Randomness prediction:

25 14 42 10 28 + 8 7
9 6 40 46 13 + 6 4

Pattern prediction:

23 3 15 16 21 + 2 5
37 39 6 49 10 + 4 6

Let's see if this improves anything. :D (Oh, the predictions were made so the balls come out in the depicted orders).

The problem of precision...

Well, I finally have some  some keys to play in EuroMillions, but the PC ran out of enough precision to store the probability values, so what I have is a 1/8.6 chance of winning 10€ per key. LOLLLLLLL I'll try to replace the doubles tonight with 256-bit floating point numbers using Gnu MP and a C# wrapper.

Predicting the unpredictable...

I'm a little crazy, so this week I started trying to predict numbers in a random sequence. I actually had astonishing results with only a few calculations.

As you know, a 100% random sequence is equiprobable. If you generate numbers from 1 to 50, in the infinite all should have come out infinite/50 times. Furthermore, you can for example analyze the space that took for similar numbers to come out. Its distribution should also be 100% random. Every relationship you establish in the sequence should be random. How does this help us. Well, if there's a pattern occurring, probability says it shouldn't occur anymore to maintain randomness.

I tried this theory with a pseudo-random generator and a "true random" atmospheric noise based generator, generating a sequence of numbers between 0 and 49. As you know, the probability of guessing the next number by pure chance is 1/50 = 2%.

Results (Percentages at which the predictor became stable):

Pseudo-random sequence: 1.4% (-30% than chance)
True random sequence: 2.4% (+20% than chance)

Astonishing isn't it? :) And I think the predictor can be greatly improved yet.

Puzzle solved!!!

I finally solved the puzzle that had been bugging me for the last 4 years. I'll now write a book on the subject. It will probably be the most controversial work I'll ever write in this life. :D Well. I like to shock people. At least it gets them thinking about how the world works, which is a rare thing these days. :p

Another thoughts... control is evil. Control leads to fear. Fear leads to further control. And who could take advantage of this overall? Who knows?! Probably someone already does. ;)

Free thought, free will and never taking anything for the absolute truth are the ways to peace and freedom. :)

Back...

Back from a restful weekend in S. Pedro do Sul with Ines. I feel well rested and like I could take the whole world heads on and win! Probably not a good thing... :D

cough... cough... maybe this is the final one:

Well, time to list what you might do with this application:
  • Make your traffic count by compressing it (useful for people with absurdly low caps, like most mobile internet plans).
  • Surf the internet anonymous.
  • Almost 100% unbreachable wireless communications (it would take decades to break one packet with the most powerful computer currently available on Earth).
  • If you use proxies, avoid having someone inspect your traffic and which machines you communicate with (useful for corporate workers who have nosy bosses - by the way, your boss seeing what you're doing is illegal, so you don't have to be afraid of obfuscating your traffic).
  • If you are an ISP or network provider, you will be able to serve traffic to your costumers compressed/encrypted. This, together with advanced caching techniques will save you precious bandwidth and improve the overall security of everyone which uses it. Not to mention your customers will be happy with the added speed they'll obtain indirectly due to the network not being "jammed" so often.
  • etc... etc... etc...

Work to live, don't live to work...

Some people think working should be about money. Maybe they like to eat, sleep with, talk to, live in, play with... money.
I think work should be about coming home at the end of the day and feeling like we've actually done something valuable and sleeping soundly and happy with ourselves.

The river...

Why do most people go with the flow, live their mediocre lives doing and thinking the same everybody else does? Sometimes, someone with new ideas enters their lives and they hold tight to their boats, so they won't leave their path, fearing for their meaningless lives...
...when that person finally achieves something great, they insult him/her to hide their lack of ambition and narrow sight.
It's sad to see this huge flock of sheep, with their lives ticking toward their sunset and yet all they do is follow one another, never aiming for greatness, either in mind, achievements, art, etc... oh, they strive for something: money!!! And for what? To reproduce and get more money? To what end? None whatsoever. Sad really.

Don't be afraid to break the flow!

1984 revisited...

What makes some people think they have the right to meddle into others' private life, data, etc... Who draws the line at what can be done and what can't? How do you see if you're being watched if you can't stare back at them the same way? Here's the dilemma.

PS: Read the book by the way :D
